Opel marketing chief Mueller to leave automaker

Opel’s marketing chief, Tina Mueller, is leaving the automaker, German business daily Handelsblatt reported.

If confirmed, Mueller, 49, would be the second leading executive to quit Opel since France’s PSA Group acquired the German-based automaker business from General Motors. Karl-Thomas Neumann resigned as CEO earlier this year after the PSA takeover.

Opel declined to comment on the report when contacted by Automotive News Europe.

Mueller, a former cosmetics executive, was hired in 2013 to restore luster to Opel’s image, which had been battered by years of financial losses, job cuts and speculation about its future under GM. She recruited colleagues from the branded goods industry and launched an image campaign in Germany that helped to counter negative perceptions of the brand.

Mueller won many marketing awards for her Opel campaigns and was last year named one of Automotive News Europe’s 25 Leading Women in the European Automotive Industry.

Mueller will leave Opel at the end of October to join a top German company, according to reports.
